Wellness. A Way of Being, Not a Destination

Wellness is everywhere these days, on packaging, in hashtags, in the way we market everything from tea to skincare.
But recently, I’ve found myself wondering…

What does wellness really mean?

- Is it something to be achieved, or something we live by?
- Is it universal, or deeply personal?
- Something more fluid, that shifts and evolves depending on who we are and what we need?
- Is it about a lifestyle, or a return to something older, quieter, and more intuitive?

Across the world, different cultures have passed down wisdom about living well. In many Eastern traditions, wellness isn’t just about the body, it’s about energy. Balance. Connection.
Practices like meditation, herbal healing, and Reiki are grounded in the idea that how we feel on the inside radiates out into everything else.

I’ve always felt drawn to these traditions, perhaps it's something in my ancestral roots, and I find myself returning to them when I need grounding. I actually trained in reiki after a spiritual experience on a trip to Bali in 2015 and it supports my wellness still.

But wellness doesn’t have to look one way.
I feel that there’s no one-size-fits-all.
In truth, it’s more like a slow unfolding, a remembering of what feels right for you.

Right now, this is what wellness looks like for me:

  • Nourishing food – not in a rule-based way, but in a “what feels good in my body?” kind of way.

  • Stillness – finding small pockets of quiet to just be, and let my energy settle.

  • Nature – always nature. The place I feel most alive and most at peace.

  • Painting – doing something I love, something that fills my cup, lifts my energy, and in turn supports me to be a happier, more present person

And science backs it up.
Researchers in Australia have found that just two hours a week in nature can significantly boost mental wellbeing and reduce feelings of stress. It doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to be consistent.

So no, I don’t think wellness is a checklist or a destination.
To me, it’s a practice.
A gentle, daily turning toward what feels good, kind, and honest.

Next month, I’ll be sharing something a little more personal, a reflection I’ve only just started to write down. It’s for those of you walking your own path toward wellness, wholeness, or simply feeling more like yourself again.

Let’s keep exploring what wellness really means, together.
